‘Admit it,’ Nereus said, smiling in his sly way. ‘You find me really charming.’
Naida rolled her eyes but couldn’t help a smile. ‘No, I find you annoying and arrogant in the same way as when I met you.’
‘Hey!’ Nereus objected. ‘We starting talking like old friends!’
Naida raided a brow, still smiling. ‘Ah, no, I’m fairly sure that’s not what happened. You insulted me and tried to blackmail me.’
He grinned wider. ‘You have a terrible memory.’
Naida stuck her jaw out slightly. ‘And there you have it, you’ve insulted me again! If I cannot find a nice pirate to take care of me, I’ll have to go back to my roots to see if some eligible gentleman will wed me,’ she sniffed a little and wiped a nonexistent tear from her eye.
Nereus stared down at her for a moment before stepping back and bowing slightly.
‘My lady, it would be my honor to have the opportunity to escort you to the ball tonight.’
